I finally get it, it is supposed to look like this-

I've no idea why  the OP's does not, I tried clicking on the hieroglyphics under where it says subscribe and none of them do it..

Thanks for all your comments guys this just suddenly went back to normal again tonight, I didnt change anything and still had loads of youtube video tabs open

Did whatever you were downloading/doing in chrome finish and the memory was freed up?

Did you check task manager for memory usage?

Hi. I can't help you as I am certainly no techie. But I had this exact same problem on Youtube the other day and I was not using Microsft Edge, so probably not a 100% browser issue.
Mine also went back to normal, but I had to shut down the browser and restart.
