Why would seller not disclose electric safe certificate?

Find it suspicious ask the sellers through ea about electric safe certificate and was told to get my solicitor to get these answers from sellers solicitor instead of booking an electric inspection myself. The electrics look dated fuse box and immersion heater very dated. Will not be surprised if the flat requires a rewiring. Thanks

Why do you find it suspicious? This is what your solicitor does, not the agent. So directing you to the solicitor is normal.
If it looks dated and you think it needs a rewire why even get the electrical check?3 -
I do not want to have to pay a solicitor and find mid way, it needs a complete rewire etc and have to spend a lot of money to upgrade. I have booked an electrician to test and what he finds will walk away if too costly. The surveyor has instructed me not to go ahead with the purchase until all electrics are tested. He also said that I should insist the sellers do that.

It's not a legal requirement for selling only if your where going to be tenant.
Had you a survey carried out on the property who paid for that0 -

As others have pointed out, unless the property is a rental one there is no obligation for there to be any electrical safety certificate, and communications with the seller should be via yours and their solicitors rather than via the estate agent.2 -
You can certainly ask the sellers to get the test done, but they can equally decline. Surveyors pretty much always advise that an electrical test cost is provided - ours certainly did - so I wouldn’t read too much into that aspect either!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

A rewire isn't something to be scared of
I get the impression that a lot of buyers are just scared of stuff like this
As we will be selling our 2 bed terrace when our renovated house is complete I have had a new consumer fitted simply because image is everything. When the 1st time buyer or their parents see the new CU or a surveyor it will just tick a box
"Image is everything in this game"....2 -

Had you a survey carried out on the property who paid for thatBut you've not yet instructed a solicitor?Frankly if I were your seller I'd be seriously considering re-marketing. Buyer has no solicitor instructed and is making unreasonable demands already re the property.I'd be anticipatingh further difficulties I could well do without.....

Have you made an offer on the property and had it accepted?
If you suspect the house needs a rewire then your offer should have reflected that fact.
We had buyers try to negotiate money off the agreed purchase price once despite me even pointing out to them that it could do with a rewire.
