Car Insurance

Hello

I recently took out a car policy via an insurance broker for my sons first car.

The quote that came back was a little higher than the lowest quote, but on the basis they are a well known company I agreed.  As part of the insurance the estimated mileage was 10,000 miles.

When I reviewed the online portal a couple of days later, I noticed that the estimated mileage submitted by them was 5,000.  I called the broker back and they have informed that I can either cancel the policy with a refund of the deposit, or pay an additional £1,200 which is the increase based on the mileage of 10,000 miles.

My question is, do you think this is as a reasonable outcome, i.e. they have offered me two different options, or, potentially more seriously,  a case of miss selling insurance?

Thank you in advance.

Its not unreasonable.  If you move from one side of the line to the other side, then jumps like this can occur.

    How is it misselling?

how can it be mis-selling if you gave them the wrong information?

just as an aside - I'm hoping that if this is your son's car he is listed as the main driver else the insurance will be invalid.

Can you be specific about exactly who you asked for 10K?
    A comparison site? broker? insurer?
or Are you saying quote was 10K and policy 5K?

When did you take out the policy? Are you within the 14 day cooling off period?
