Hello
My Grandad has two pensions a state pension and a Commercial Union Pension
He has just been told that he has been paying too much tax on his commercial union pension as his cirumstances have changed. he has all the forms to claim some of the tax back from the last few years. But one of the questions on his form is how much state pension have you received over a certain period of time.
Is there an easy way of seeing how much state pension a person has been paid?
Any help would be appreciated
regards

He gets a letter at the start of every tax year telling how much his pension will be per week.

Thankyou,
where would he be able to get the information though if he had misplaced the letter?
I need to sit down and have a proper chat with him to see excatly what paper work he's got
Cheers

The insurance companies can supply the information. In this case he needs to ask Norwich Union.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Hi
Had a similar situation with my uncle (he was on an emergency tax code following his retirement hence paying too much tax). Spoke directly to his local HMRC enquiry office who were extremely helpful, they calculated all his income (state benefits and his occupational scheme benefits) and recalculated the tax for him, I don't think he actually sent any paperwork it was all done over the phone. Net result was a nice cheque, so give them a ring.
