Just got an email with these options, feeling confused. No electric vehicle.

There are no rules on what you can use the cut-price electricity for during off-peak hours. So maybe you could get the EV tariff. See the website for full details https://www.britishgas.co.uk/energy/ev-tariff-home.html

How to get our EV tariff
- It’s available to all new and existing customers.
- You’ll need to have an electric vehicle you charge at home. We might ask you to prove this.

Where does it say must have a smart meter fitted.

- You’ll need a British Gas electricity smart meter. If you don’t have an electricity smart meter - or if you have one fitted by another provider - we’ll upgrade you to one of our smart meters, at no extra cost.
- You’ll have to pay by Direct Debit.

Typical BG muddle: unusually, it specifies Variable Direct Debit (which is A Good Thing IMHO) but then confuses everything by quoting a monthly cost.0

I have Ev Tesla, with free charging at work on Tues, Thurs and Friday, as my office days. So currently don’t charge at Home, travelling home reduces range by 75 miles. Am I right in thinking it’s not worth switching to Ev Tariff as my Day rates will increase, WFH Mon/Wed. Most weekends increases EV usage due to Football away games or out with family so have to use Destination Chargers to recharge to get enough juice before I’m back at work. Anyone able to advise best way to approach this. Switch to EV night tariff or stick with current British Gas standard day rates. Thanks Jon0

But, if you can change your destination charging to at home charging, work out how much kWh that will be, work out what percentage of that is compared to your daily usage at home, work out how much of your home usage you could shift to overnight (eg, tumble) and include your existing overnight load in the calcs. Also factor in that you could get "smart slots" where day-time usage can also be at the cheaper rate.
Out of that, you can work out what your ultimate cost would be, and compare that with your existing home cost + your existing destination charging costs.0
