Shed door jammed shut

Hi,
I'm unsure if I'm on the correct board but I've got a feeling you'll be able to help me!
My shed door won't open, it opens in the summer so must've expanded very slightly from the cold/ wet weather -although this is not visible. When I pull the hand, the top of the door easily comes forward but the bottom is not moving. I won't force it because I may break it.
Q1: Any ideas how I can open it, without breaking it?
QB: Is there anything I can use to stop this from happening in the future?
Thank you very much - I wish you a successful spring in your garden!
D!

Try gently lifting the door up using the handle as you try & open it
Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens
  • Are the hinges on the outside or the inside? (i.e. can you remove them or the pins to 'encourage' the door to drop out of the frame)

Does the shed door get sun at a particular time of day? (it could be it loosens up enough when it's in direct/warm sunlight to open).

Have you tried lifting or pushing down as you open? (could be the hinges are slipping slightly as the door warps).

One trick for finding out where it's sticking once it's open is to use something like chalk (or at a pinch lipstick) on the frame and where it rubs away/transfers is where it's chafing.

Annoying the hinges are on the inside! No luck there.
They're in sunlight from 11am-3, I tried them at midday & just now, jiggled them about, again, no luck :/
OK, I'll give that a go with the chalk. Is there anything I can paint on to stop this happening every summer? I protect the shed with protector fluid for the wood but it's not stopping the sticky doors!

  • Once it's open and you know where it's slipping then you need to figure out if it's the hinges meaning the weight isn't supported - or if the swelling means it's too big for the frame. One is rehang the door, the other shave the door down where the chalk is transferring.
