Hire car charge query

I've had a look at rental sites such as 1car1.com and Alamo and was alarmed to find that paying for Collision Damage Waiver still means that I'm liable to pay an excess (up to £650 I think) should I prang the car regardless of who's to blame.

Have I understood this correctly?

I wouldn't use 1Car1 again if my life depended on it. Lousy experience.

I'm inclined to use a small, local firm but using my own insurance.

You can take out secondary insurance to cover the excess with outfits like http://www.insurance4carhire.com/. If you don't have insurance but the other party is to blame for an accident, you can sue them to recover the excess.

my rental through airline network was nothing to pay if i crashed etc on the condition you havent been drinking /drugs etc

the voucher gets you a car from dollar...a dodge brand

Fairly normal - you can pay what is often called super CDW to reduce the excess to a more reasonable figure
