Advice on a new dishwasher needed!

Options
Hi,

In my quest to totally refit my kitchen, I need to buy an intergrated dishwasher.

Now, the issue I have is that I have not used a dishwasher for over 4 years and I have never bought one either!

I have to chose one, but don't know what to look for? Can any of you help?
My requirements are for a family of 4(2.2), 60cm width and intergrated!

What else do I need to consider?

Cheers
HB

So now you need one - why?

    £2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:
  • two reasons, the main one, the wife says so! the second, less washing up now our family is growing frees up more time for story telling and playing! (well nappy changing at mo!)
  • We are currently in the same situation - looking for an integrated DW, with a width of 60cm.

We've looked at several, and for me it's important for it to not use lots of water as we are metered. We are currently looking at a Bosch dishwasher (not sure of the model number off the top of my head, sorry) - but it only uses approx 12 litres per wash instead of 15/18+ - which will soon add up!

Zanussi and Electrolux are also well spoken of tho, and cheaper than the Bosch.

Definitely do consider water usage - don't know if you are on a meter, but with munchkins growing up you'll need to keep this low :)

Also if possible, if you're buying online, do it via a site on Quidco - so you can get some money back from your purchase!
    Finally debt free!

My 5 year old Bosch has never dried the washing up properly. I have had stainless steel cutlery, which I'd had for years, suddenly develop rust spots. Their answer was to empty the dishwasher immediately - which I can't do anyway as the crockery is still too hot to handle. Have a look at reviews on the web before you buy.

I asked this a short time back http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=589883&highlight=vansboy

& what I've found is that FULLY integrated aren't as many around.

& as usual with many white goods, are the same machine, with a different name & £$£$ on!

Indesit have one www.empiredirect.co.uk £249ish - same picture except label, is Hotpoint £309. Unless I'm missing something.

  • Integrated are hugely more expensive than stand-alone.

I bought a new D/W 3 years ago for less than £250 (Servis, I think). It's performed very well, no issues and does five or six washes per week for about 30p per wash (plus cost of powder, rinse aid, salt & power).

Could you not site a stand-alone elsewhere (e.g. utility room?) or simply live with one that isn't integrated?
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
  • I've had a bosch and a zanussi, the bosch was by far the better of the 2 (sorry don't recall model numbers) but it was integrated and the kitchen was from MFI if that helps? You should get one that has a finishinf rinse facility and buy the liquid to do this as well as the normal wash to avoid stains and spotting. I hope you get one soon so you can hang up your Marigolds lol!!!
  • Thanks guys for all the help!

I'll look into all the info you all have mentioned! I have already ordered the kitchen with a cupboard for intergrated dishwasher, as I stated before, tis cos the wife said thats what we want!:p

I think I'll be looking at spending about £250 on it, so can anyone recommend a website for elec goods reviews?

    Cheers

If you're on an Economy 7 electricity tariff then you might want to look for a model with a delayed start function so you can set it to wash overnight using cheap rate electricity.
