Sainsbury's / Smartshop / Nectar - problems!

Do these things all come under the 1 umbrella or are they likely to point at each other telling me to see him it's not my problem? A few grumbles with this...

I've seen items on the shelf that tell me for example Nectar price is £2.00. I'll be using Smartshop where I may have it on my weekly price offers for say £2.50 on for what say may be a £3 item normally. When I scan (using my phone) rather than bring up the price as £2 it shows as £2.50. It should be £2 as that saving trumps £2.50.

In the past I've put the item back but recently I thought ok I'll send it through manually. So my Smartshop goes through & is paid for. I then scan this item, scan my Nectar card ready for it to drop from £3 to £2 but it doesn't.

I went to leave it at the till & walk off but someone came & put it through at the shelf price for me.

Then one this weekend. I bought another item that was I think £0.90 with Nectar price. Full price is £1.50. I never buy at full price.
I scanned it (Smartshop again) and to be honest I can't say if I even looked at the screen or not so maybe it did display the wrong price or maybe it displayed the correct price.

Either way I've just gone through my receipt entering it in to the spends tracker we have & I've been charged £1.50 for each time I bought this item. I manually totalled everything up & I got charged full whack.

Yet right underneath it it says PRICE REDUCTION ORIGINAL PRICE £1.04.

That's a price increase to me, not reduction. Again, I've gone through each item on the list & I've been charged £1.50, not £1.04 and not £0.90.

Anyone else experiencing this?

And while we're not talking £100s here, it's still irritated me enough to have a rant so who do you moan to - Sainsbury's, Smartshop, Nectar?

If I notice a price has scanned 'wrongly' I take a photo of the shelf edge and get the reduction added at the Smart Shop check-out.  It's a faff for the staff but at least it makes them aware of the problem and , hopefully, they'll report it back up the line to someone who can do something about it.

  • Do you get the weekly Nectar offers and save them to your Nectar account? I usually choose "save all", it's easier.  Make sure your Smart Shop account is linked to your Nectar card, and check the receipt afterwards.  If you're still having problems I suggest you call Nectar customer service.
  • I have complained in the past (to Sainsburys, nectar, smartshop), and each has said it’s an issue with the others - also that you can’t mix and match the offers. I gave up on smartshop at my local Sainsbury’s because it would always want a member of staff to verify and they don’t seem to have any staff (except security), easier to just use self-checkout. And I get my big shops delivered so smartshop not available…

Hi OP ... I don't think I've ever come across a case where there is a Nectar Price on a product AND I have a Your Nectar Price on the same product (not including Sainsbury's Nectar Points Offers).

There is certainly ambiguity when it comes to performing a 'smartshop' but I would expect the scanner (or smartphone) to show the Your Nectar Price and that to be charged at the till. In your manual case it would not be a smartshop so the Nectar Price should be the one applied.

I have seen many examples where the Nectar Price ticket is incorrect, either because it hasn't been removed as an oversight or when it has been deliberately removed for logistical reasons the day before a price change.

    All this applies.
I click save all & my accounts are connected.

I've noticed in the past when I've scanned an item it records as having more in my basket than I've put in. Thankfully I noticed that one before paying.

Am going to need to make it a habit of scanning & then checking the scan on every single item as for the most part I just scan and go which as is pretty clear - it's not very good thinking it will scan as it should.
  • I’ve seen this before where a your nectar price was higher than the nectar price and whilst it went through at the your nectar price, I got a voucher afterwards to refund the difference. A bit of a faff though, particularly as I couldn’t then get the voucher to scan…

More generally, I have noticed more mistakes creeping into Sainsbury’s prices. Bought some leeks at the weekend (not on offer) and the scanned price was 10p higher than the shelf price. Have also seen an “offer” before where a £2.50 product had a shelf label showing 25p off but it went through with 25p added on, at £2.75!
