Need to wait for debit card before switching?

I'm new to this whole "switch hacking" so have a simple question. I just opened a second current account with Nationwide to use as a donor to switch to NatWest. The new account has appeared in my Nationwide app  so can I now go ahead with switching to NatWest, or do I need to wait for the debit card to arrive and maybe activate it?

Thanks

You can try, but Nationwide will likely decline the switch if you have a debit card assigned to the account (regardless of whether said card is yet in your possession/usable).

No need to activate tho, you just need the PAN (card number). Just wait a few days for it to arrive, Natwest offers normally last months so no need to rush.
  • Can't remember if Natwest ask for the whole card number, but I can see the last 4 digits of my Nationwide card in the app. Sometimes it's only the last 4 or 5 digits required.
  • If there's a debit card with the account NatWest will want the card number so I'd wait til it's come through.
  • NatWest will ask if the account you are switching from has a card associated with it. It gives 3 options. 1. Yes 2. No I don’t have a card associated with this account 3. My card is lost or stolen

I clicked option 2 and a button came up saying ‘check the account is eligible’ - mine was because it is a chase account that doesn’t have a card associated with it.

I think if you are switching from an account with an active card it might be best to wait until it arrives just to be safe.
