Cheap Agile Tonight - How long can wet washing be left in the washer

I notice that there are some 8 and 9p half hour continuous slots tonight.

How long can the damp washing be left in the washer before having to redo the whole lot (thus negating the benefit of the cheap rates)?

Personally if I run it at 8pm and leave all night I'd want to re rinse and spin in the AM

But many people do it and don't re rinse.

Could you not put it on an airer before bed?

Is it a washer dryer?  If you're just using Rinse Hold, the savings from spinning later on will hardly be worth it.

    Long enough.
I've been known to do a wash on solar from 12-2, then dry the following morning on Go from 0030-0430.
Or even on two successive nights of Go!

  • Thanks for the replies.  No it is not a washer/dryer - separate heat pump dryer and its usage is minimal compared to washer.

Most days (inclding weekends) I am up and out early.  An hour for a wash, slots available either 23.30 - 00.30 or between 02.00 and 04.00.  I will be in the land of nod before 23.30.

I'll do it between 2 and 4, and then throw in dryer first thing.

As long as your washing machine is reasonably clean then I wouldn’t expect leaving overnight to be any sort of issue. I frequently do - indeed sometimes if we run out of time washing done very first thing stays in the machine until we get home from work before being put on the airer. Not an issue. If you ARE finding any degree of mustiness in the clothes then I’d suggest running a 90° cycle on the (empty) WM with white vinegar in it for a freshen up.

Give the seal a good wipe too, it can get really gunky in all those creases. The 90C wash doesn't seem to get that bit clean.

  • A nice blast in an old school vented tumble dryer at 75oC will smoke those bacteria.

It will be fine until the morning, I regularly do washing in the middle of the night

Yes had that problem, did a 90C wash with a couple of cups of bleach poured into the dispenser tray, which cleaned the seal up, now do it every so often.
