Removing redundant telephone wires

Hello, there is a redundant telephone wire on the wall which I'm trying to understand if I can remove? I'm finally looking at redecorating this room and just don't know if I can remove it. I've tried searching other posts and seems to be conflicting information about whether it's a live wire or whether I should leave it even if it's unlikely it would be used again. The road has overhead wires and also fibre-optic (which is what I'm connected to).
Photo attached, any advice gratefully received. The wire comes through the same hole as the fibre cable so appears from same 'box' but they are separate. Photos attached.
(Ps...yes I know the cable running behind skirting is weird, but it's because it runs under floorboards to TV in another room).
Thanks

Looks like an old virgin media box. Do you have a landline? If not, it looks to me to be an old (virgin) landline. The good news is that if you wanted a virgin landline in the future they now are VOIP and run them from your router, so they won’t reconnect to that box.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Hello! Thanks for you're reply. You're right, I have virgin media so yes the cable comes through there. But the telephone box to the right of this says cable and wireless and the wire is completely separate to the virgin one, just uses the same hole in the external wall!silvercar said:Looks like an old virgin media box. I'm keeping the virgin(marked as ntl) box (however grotty it is) but just trying to understand if I can take away the separate phone one

Just snip it off. Nothing will happen.1

If you don't get a dial tone, it is safe to cut the cable.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

If you are fortunate to have Fibre to the premises all the equipment installed before I would say is redundant and will never be used again. You may be advised to leave it but it is a bit like leaving the equipment for gas lighting in place once electricity was installed, nobody ever went back to it.Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. If as you say you are on full fibre - it is redundant.
Plugging a phone in and checking for dialtone should put your mind at ease.1 -
Funnily enough...the old gas lighting fixtures are still in the walls! Just been sealed and painted over mutiple times.Eldi_Dos said:If you are fortunate to have Fibre to the premises all the equipment installed before I would say is redundant and will never be used again. You may be advised to leave it but it is a bit like leaving the equipment for gas lighting in place once electricity was installed, nobody ever went back to it.

I would not mention that over on the energy board, there will be some who will say gas is so much cheaper and you get the extra benefit of the heat.bbat said:
