Having a son who stays in miami my wife and i spend 4 or 5 weeks there at a time . My wife has portal hypertension ( non alcoholic ) and i have high blood pressure so we struggle to obtain this type of cover . The best this year was £1100 .
Looking around on an old website someone recommended getting visitor health cover in the states and also getting standard travel insurance here for lost luggage etc, declare illness but ask them not to cover them .
Would appreciate thoughts especially if someone has done this .

It is the portal hypertension that insurance charge big money for . Turns out the pill my wife was prescribed for 10 years for her crohns brought on the hypertension due to the maximum length being around 5 to 6 years for this pill . Covid being blamed of course for lack of hospital appointments . Insurance is with paying too much as hardly any companies will do the annual world wide including usa as condition is considered very serious .0

If you get local health insurance in the states and travel insurance from the UK for lost luggage, there is a gap that won’t be covered. This includes anything that happens before you arrive in the States eg en route, any cover you need to extend your stay eg hotel costs and worst case the cost of repatriation.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
