Refunded twice - what next?

We had an active subscription to Rooster for our kids prepaid cards, but have since withdrawn all the money to move to a different provider. We withdrew just over £400 but it must have been processed twice because we received 2 lots of £400+ - both exactly the same amount and both coming from Rooster.

I have reached out and contacted them about it and was first told everything was correct on their end. I asked them to double check and then they asked for a screenshot of our bank statement. Ive sent the screenshot and was told the “payments team” would be in touch (28th January)

I chased it up on the 1st February and was told they would be in touch in the next few working days.

I chased it up again on the 10th Feb and was told it was escalated to the payments team and they would be in touch.

I’m getting fed up of chasing this now. It was not my mistake, what do I do now?

You've let them know, and chased them. That's a reasonable thing to do. You should put the £400 somewhere safe and wait for them to ask for it. If they don't do that in six years then you can safely make use of it.

(I think they were wrong to tell you 'a few days' , these sort of investigations involve multiple players their bank, your bank and all the middlemen. As the automated system doesn't match It can take weeks to manually  get to the bottom of what happened)

Stop chasing? But keep hold of the money for the meantime, they have years to ask for it back.
  • As above, don't spend any more time chasing it, but make a note that you'll need to have funds to pay it if they realise their error in the next six years.
