Why am I not eligible for a balance transfer card

Hi all,

I'm looking to find a balance transfer card for only £1,200 but when I do a search I don't seem to be eligible for any and I don't know why.
My Experian score is just over 700, I've lived at my current address for 2.5 years and my previous address for 11 years. My income is about £1200 a month so can anyone tell me why there doesn't seem to be any cards available for me please

Kind regards Mark

Credit score means nothing Credit history does.

Credit is getting harder to find these days & it will be your income to available debt that is the major issue.

Just where are you checking eligibility?

As Experian do not issue credit cards their 'score' means nothing.

I might be that your current outstanding debt relative to your income is the issue.

Are you taking this from a pre-eligibility checker?

How much are you looking to transfer?

Have you tried for one of the sub-prime providers?

There are four you can check here

    Hi,
I just googled balance transfer cards, filled in the details on the website and it told me I wouldn't be eligible. Maybe I was using the wrong site.

I'm looking to transfer the whole 1,200.
Sorry what's a sub prime provider?
I've not tried that website so will try it
    Thank you

    what website?
  • My sincere thanks to everyone who's replied. I've checked the MSE website with the link kindly provided and found that I should be eligible for a balance transfer card.
The next question I have is when I've paid that card off is it better that I close the balance transfer card and use my original credit card, vise versa or keep both open?

Many thanks to everyone for your help with this

    Kind regards Mark

Always handy to have more than one card.  Can also be useful for direct debit requirements for bank accounts.

    Which website?

Far better to just go to each provider direct.
Start with your own bank, unless that is who current card is with,

  • One of the better ways of finding whether you are eligible for a credit card is to ask your own bank where your salary is deposited.
If they state yes to you then there should not be a barrier to other cards becoming available as long as there are not anything bad on your credit reports such as missed or late payments.
