Unexpired discount code that actually failed

Hi,
Having previously found an unexpired discount code online from a well known discount code company, I decided to order a holiday break, using the normal booking form.
However, after entering the discount code, it failed with error message "Invalid code"
So I contacted the holiday company on the phone and they said they do not do discount codes with this company. I also contacted the discount company as well and they said the the holiday company had already told them they had revoked this offer a few months back, well before my attempted booking.
However, I checked the expiry date again and found it was still within the expiry date. In fact this code was showing on the discount code website that it had already been used 223 times that month alone.
My questions:
1) Does a discount code have to be legally validated by the discount code company before being published on their website?
2) Can a holiday company revoke what is thought to be an unexpired discount code?
3) Do the two companies have to legally communicate with each other, so this type of issue never occurs?
4) Because I could not afford the full price of the holiday and could not take the break, do I have any consumer rights?
Thanks

no, yes, no, no.
in my experience at least 80% of the codes i try are expired or invalid no matter what the voucher / discount company says.2 -
No, this is nothing to do with "rights" at all.1

A code printed on a third party website has no legal validity at all. I could publish a web page called 'DiscountsforMSEpeople' and then advertise a 90 percent off discount voucher code for Sainsburys that expires in 2050 - Sainsburys would have no reason to honour my voucher code - but my website would probably be very popular with people clicking through it and potentially clicking on other adverts.
