Nectar has 0 security. To spend points at a till you need the card number and a phone to generate the right barcode. Google wallet will make one and came pre-installed on my phone. The card number could be guessed, or on junk mail that goes in the recycling... Most people aren't too concerned with protecting loyalty card numbers, but with Nectar it's all you need to wipe out the account.northernstar007 said:how did they get to steal the points??2 -
I had heard about theft of Nectar points but hadn't understood how it happened. So it's safer to use the SmartShop app, so that your Nectar card never needs to be used?Mnoee said:

Nope, there's literally no way to stop someone guessing your card number or similar, so use whichever is easiest. Nectar have decided that refunding people is cheaper than introducing a 2 factor thing to spend points.prettyandfluffy said:

I never let my balance get high because I don't want the hassle of chasing a large refund - I know it's fairly common for people to stock up on them for Christmas when they are often have a double up event, but I just don't need the drama of finding out my balance is 0 at a time when I really need the money!3 -
Needed 2FA to spend my points on line with Argos so there is 2FA in use but obviously in restricted circumstances.Mnoee said:Nope, there's literally no way to stop someone guessing your card number or similar, so use whichever is easiest. You can redeem points in Sainsbury's just by scanning the barcode of the card, so they just guess at barcode numbers and find one that works, then use it in Sainsbury's to redeem them.northernstar007 said:how did they get to steal the points??
the milk offer is a good one 60 points but its been reduced to 50
and ive been offered a extra esso bonus, so ive got a few for my next fill0 -
thats worrying about your points vanishing, con artists and thieves think of everything

I was offered 250 points on an item then next time 200 followed by 100 and 2 weeks later 50 points. I noticed after ignoring the 50 point offer the next offer was 100 then 125 points and it started climbing again, seems like they reward you for shopping less often.Enjoy everyday like it's your last!1

From their perspective it's not a reward, it's an incentive. They offer points to encourage you to buy things you otherwise wouldn't; giving you points for something you would have bought anyway is just reducing their profits.Frank99 said:I was offered 250 points on an item then next time 200 followed by 100 and 2 weeks later 50 points.
