Monzo App - Auto Logging out?

I've got the Monzo banking app installed on my phone as well as the Lloyds app.

The Lloyds app will automatically log me out after a few minutes of inactivity, yet the Monzo app doesn't and I can't see anyway of doing so.  It's been days now, and if someone accessed my phone, the app is constantly open with no passwords, fingerprints etc. required to access my account.

Anyway of getting it to log me out after say 3-5 mins?

  • If you get it to log out after every use, I think you may need to wait for the email every time you log back in.

Instead, I suggest you enter Settings and activate the App Lock and Biometrics.

That's what I do, then it needs a fingerprint t get into the app. I also have authenticate with biometrics turned off so I have to enter my debit card pin to make a payment.

Can confirm it doesn't auto log out. Every other banking app I have does. Seems to be a security flaw.

I'm on Android and simply touch the 3 vertical lines bottom left of the screen to reduce the app size and sweep up to close.
  • I much prefer the monzo approach, no getting logged out automatically when I don't want, no faff logging in or out. I'm happy to rely on my phone security - if my phone is unlocked then that's enough to get into my banking app.

It's better than having no phone lock, but on the rare occasion I lend my phone to someone to take a photo or make a call or something, or say it were to be snatched out of my hand while it was unlocked and I was using it, they would have full access to everything if you were unable to separately also lock the app. Obviously it's a bit of an inconvenience, especially if 2FA gets involved every time you need to log in, but I'd be happy to weather a bit of inconvenience if it means better security.

With app lock turned on it does, I have to use my fingerprint every time I log into it. Even with that turned off all you can do is view things, you need a fingerprint or pin to transfer any money.

Thanks for that, Rob, I didn't have app lock turned on. I do now.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

Note the difference between and locking and logging out of the app.

The Monzo app allows enabling 'app lock' (Settings > Privacy & Security) so your phone's standard passcode or biometrics are required to access the app. Your Monzo debit card PIN (or phone's biometrics) is required to authorise transactions or other sensitive actions.

Logging in requires opening a link sent via email, which Monzo does not expect anyone to do every time the app is accessed, so logging out can only be performed manually. When logged out, there are two choices: "I'm new to Monzo" and "I already have an account"; this is clearly a setup stage and not a screen one is expected to see regularly.
