Policy expert /trinity payout

Hi,

I'm seeking some advice on an insurance claim from last year. My cloakroom encountered a flood (lasted 18hrs due to location of leak and I water company nability to turn off water mains due to being an old house). My insurance is with Policy Expert who use Trinity. I feel the damage that has been specified is accurate ie redo cloakroom, furniture, replace units, tiles and some replacement floor in hallway.

They have given me a quote to do the repair of 4800 (exc vat). Having discussed the work with a builder they did laugh and suggest to do the work required it would cost more. Is there a process to follow in order to have them re-review amount?i have asked them for a breakdown of the work and the cost but trinity reject providing the cost breakdown.

Many thanks it works be great to hear of anyoned experiences.

One of the mistakes often made by people is around Matching Sets, which most policies don't cover. Assuming yours doesn't then you need to make sure your builders are not quoting assuming that they are. So if you have one patch of tiles damaged the insurer will only be paying for that one patch not the whole wall/floor whereas most people instructed by you will assume you want the whole floor redone.

Are they proposing a cash settlement or getting their own people to do the work? If its the later the quote is broadly irrelevant. If it's the former then submit your own quotes as part of a complaint but as above, make sure they aren't quotes for more than you are covered for otherwise the complaint is easily dismissed.
