  • I got a similar type of offer yesterday. I only have Gas with them as I was transferred in 2021 after Utility Point went bust. I am in London which I think is why my rate is slightly different to yours. So if my math is correct the new offer is almost 18% lower than my current gas tariff. I took the offer as my electric fix is with E.0.N and has 5 more months to run. I have a 14 day cooling off period if I change my mind. There was also a 24 month offer at 4% below my current Kwh rate. The new 1Yr Mar25 offer gets me through the rest of this winter and all of next so I don't think its too bad a deal as its only the gas I have with them. I have a smart meter so new tariff starts next day. Please correct me if I'm wrong in my sums.

     Energy plan:
     Gas EDF Essentials 1Yr Mar25

    Unit Rates (per kWh)

    6.092p

    Standing Charge

    29.59p

    Tariff Ends On

    01/04/2025

    Exit Fees

     £75.00

    my current variable rate is

    Gas supply

    Unit rate

    7.42p per kWh

    Standing charge

    29.59p per day

End of January i moved from EDF to Octopus.  I'm now on the Octopus agile tariff.

With EDF i was on a 1 year economy 7 fix which was roughly 14.5p night rate and 35p day rate.  I am in the East midlands.

I'm still waiting for my final EDF bill.  So looking in my EDF account i see they've offered me a new E7 fix:

    Contract details

    Tariff name

    EDF Essentials 1Yr Mar25

    Fixed term ends

    31st March 2025

    Payment method

    Direct Debit (Variable)

    Exit fee

    £75.00

    Day rate

    32.10p per kWh

    Night rate

    11.15p per kWh

    Standing charge

    50.67p per day

    ......

I'm still not switching back to EDF even though that 11.15p economy 7 night rate is an excellent looking night rate.

    ...........

    23 Feb edit:

Today the new ofgem energy price cap was announced and EDF have in response now done a version 2 of the above deal 1 year  E7 fix and they've unfortunately raised the night rate to 13.55p and the standing charge to 55.71p.

So i hope a few people had nabbed the above version 1 fix because the version 2 higher night rate and higher standing charge now no longer appeal to me.  ☹️

  • Thanks for the heads up.just signed to it as night is good and day .both cheaper than my feb one so worth the exit fee to switch over.heavens above il be able to have 3 heaters on instead of 2 now when it’s really cold.even the drop in April from 16p sv to lower price wouldn’t match it.👍😁
  • Excellent.  👍  Octopus energy's 12 month loyalty fix night rate is 13.36p.  So that 11.15p EDF night rate does look great.  🙂

Have you got the option within your account dashboard via change my tariff tab to change to 12 month loyalty fix.( I just wanting to see if new customers have that option)

If you’ve switched to Octopus Agile then the EDF offer looks very poor in comparison. You’re  getting that night rate at various points in the night and day. Then the day rate you’re only paying in the 30p’s between 4-7pm.

if you compare the EDF to other normal tariffs then it might be good

Yes i've got that option when signing into the Octopus website but not in the app.  The app seems limited.  I left EDF on 26 Jan then moved to Agile the next day.  They give me 3 options in the change my tariff tab.  I won't give the flexible tariff because the important night rate is 15.76p.

Archerychick, the standard variable E7 night tariff rate on Edf is presently 16.33p.  So that 11.15p night rate will appeal to many.  Two people today have thanked me and moved onto it.

At present i am liking agile.  But i mainly use it for clunky old storage heaters and immersion hot water and they are all operated manually.

I can only use them between 12.30am to 7.30am.  So if there is a small time frame during the night when it's cheap then i will have to set my alarm to get up to manually turn them on and then set the alarm again to turn them off.  So as you can imagine after a while being preoccupied with different tariffs every day will eventually become tedious.

I had to pay a £75 exit fee to leave my EDF fix and so for the next few months i will continue with agile.

The 11.15p night rate was extremely tempting, so for all the downsides above i can see myself eventually returning to economy 7.  Afterall who wants a life day in day out continually thinking about tariffs? 😂
  • I am not in disagreement with you, I thought you were comparing this to Octopus Agile - in comparison to that tariff the EDF deal is going to be more expensive.

I’m on agile myself and I don’t spend all day thinking about tariffs, but I have load shifted all my big appliances outside the 4-7pm window. I still cook and function otherwise normally.
