Toothpaste prices and whitening claims

Not a vent per se but an observation of the fairly recent and rapid doubling in the big name toothpaste prices. (From £2 to £4.50 is quite a leap). Noticed it a few weeks ago in Boots, Superdrug, supermarket. Surely this can't be linked to the Ukraine conflict??? Also ticked of by the fake claims that toothpaste will magically whiten teeth. I thank ye.

I buy toothpaste at Home Bargains, it's the cheapest place I've found. 99p for a large tube of Wisdom toothpaste.0

"Whitening" toothpastes seem to just have rather more abrasive (bigger particle size range) of the calcium carbonate. It will take off stains, but my dentist doesn't recommend it for 2 x everyday use.

For serious cleaning, you can still buy Eucryl Toothpowder. It used to be branded as Eucryl Smoker's Toothpowder.I use it occasionally. But not too often, as its rather more abrasive than toothpaste. But it only scrapes off stains. If your teeth aren't naturally white, then no toothpaste is going to make them white. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

Not very MSE, I know, but I use Colgate Max White Ultimate Renewal toothpaste which is ridiculously expensive at £10.80 a tube on Amazon. I understand there's only a small amount of whitening agent they are allowed to put in toothpaste, compared to a dentist's whitening treatment, but this Ultimate Renewal supposedly cranks up the effectiveness of that small amount by adding in a catalyst. It doesn't give outstanding results, but the difference is just about noticeable compared to the standard range of toothpastes.
