Anyone made a call to home insurance asking for advice, but NOT made a claim, then insurance goes up?

I did this on two separate occasions with my old insurer, then received a letter from my current (now ex) insurer informing me that I'd 'misrepresented information' because I didn't declare that I'd made those 'claims' when putting my details into the price comparison sites. Because I didn't do this, they were trying to charge me an extra £84.25, so I cancelled the policy. That said, I now find that these phone calls without claims have increased any quotes by around £25 and that I'll need to declare these calls for the next 5 years! Some expensive phone calls they were! If the person(s) I spoke to would have explained this before I gave my information, I would have hung up immediately. Anyone else had this and if so, is it worth putting in a complaint? Hope I'm making sense. Many thanks for any advice.

Depends on what you were seeking 'advice' on?0

When you buy insurance you are asked to declare any incidents/accidents irrespective of if you have claimed or not.
When you call your insurers to "ask advice", like saying tiles have blown off the roof in the recent storm, your insurers helpfully record these incidents. This means you then cannot "forget" to mention them when you get your next quotes as these will be in CUE and your insurance can be void for intentional/reckless non-disclosure.
If you want to "forget" to mention things, you need to ensure you've (or another party) certainly haven't told an insurer etc such an official record of the incident exists and findable by others.0
