If you are doing a paper PA1P, note that probate can take much longer than an online one.

polar_pig,  thanks so much, yes it does answer my questions!  I intend to use the gov.uk online form, but before jumping in I wanted to check what the form looked like by using what I thought was the same form from
probate-a-will.co.uk. As you point out, it isn't and now I see what Para 7 and in particular 7.2 actually look like the problems go away; I'll just use my IHT checker summary page for the gross, net, and net qualifying values.

I'm assuming that the PA1P online version (Para 7) will be the same as the "new paper version"?

Sorry, and another question. I've got to Para 7.6  "Have you received a letter from HMRC with your unique probate code?"   The Note says this letter will be sent out following receipt of my IHT400 .....but I'm not submitting an IHT 400 because it's an excepted estate??  And if I answer NO I'm then asked to provide numbers from IHTs421 and 207, neither of which is applicable.

Or should I just fill in the Gross and Net values and ignore the box asking for the probate code?

Could you advice please?

When I last looked, the online version was different than the paper version. In my opinion it would be better to start with the online version. You can stop and start over many days if need be, you can edit figures you previously entered easily, it is all saved for you and you don't have to submit the form until you're happy with it. Noting that it's an "excepted estate", I suspect it will resolve your queries.

Thank you.  In fact I hadn't noticed under para 7.5  it says Go to Section 9, thus I didn't need to answer 7.6 at all.  My mistake!
