Bank problem maybe

I have an account with Barclays for over 30 years . In 2019 I sold my house, unfortunately the  next property fell through and I became of no fixed abode. I lost my debit card in the meantime and needed a new one sent out. I told Barclays I was in between addresses and they told me they could send it to a care of C/O address so I had it sent to a friend's house . His address Was put on and has remained on my account ever since .With what's happened to the country since then I have found it impossible to find suitable accommodation and remain NFA .With my situation not changing for so long will barclays class me as homeless and close my account or present over problems? If so, will you give me a chance to get my money transferred out to my son first or will you just lock my account as soon as you become aware of my situation?

You seem to be phrasing the last bit of that as if you're addressing Barclays directly - have you actually engaged with them on this subject (at either your or their instigation) or are you just hypothetically mulling over possibilities?

Why is it Barclays fault that you haven't found a house to purchase in the past 30 years?

No, the account is 30 years old but it's only the past five that have been NFA....

I imagine that OP will already be acutely aware of that, but they're looking for guidance about the consequences!

As above, are you just speculating about what Barclays might potentially do, or is there any evidence that they're aware of, and concerned about, your situation?

Is there income going into the account or are you just running down the proceeds of the 2019 house sale?

They can't simply keep your money but if it was to be frozen for any length of time, what would be the impact?  You might wish to transfer an emergency pot to your son (backed up with something in writing to protect you both)....

Homeless people have bank accounts. A family member was street homeless for many years. Used a care of address of a homeless charity. Had the account 20yrs in that situation

Its been 5 years as a C/O address. As long as that is still valid (or change it to your son's address if it is currently elsewhere) then it shouldn't be an issue. If they were sending mail which required a response and not getting it then it may raise red flags.

If they did decide to close the account they would give notice, but if that is going to a dead letter box then how would you know?

As long as you would get told of any mail arriving for you from the C/O address I wouldn't worry about it.
