Adverse credit entries

I have a situation where I rented some flats and the tenants ran up electric bills they didn't settle when they left. I have since found out when applying for credit that the bills were reassigned to me personally. When I found out I settled the bills but they still show on my credit file (as settled) but they stop me obtaining credit for six years from when registered. I've tried contacting the suppliers requesting they remove the entries but it's a nightmare calling call centres and messaging chat teams to people who don't understand.
Can anyone help me to have these defaults removed please?
Brian

Were all the bills in your name?
As tenants should have had these in their own name.

This will not stop you from obtaining credit, but might make it more expensive.
