Auto Renewal Fees, do they need to give notice

Had an auto renewal of an online Geneology site.
£229 !!!
No warning emails that fee was coming out on my account, just an email with an invoice after it had gone.
Credit card says its my dispute with the Geneology site.
I contacted them within 75 mins of payment going out......no response.
Advice on next step......

Are you disputing that you had signed up to a contract with auto-renewal? I'm not aware of any general rule that they need to remind you...0

Not much of a help now, but always turn off auto-renewal when you sign up to anything.0

There is no legal requirement for them to give you notice as long as their T&Cs that you clicked to say you'd read and agreed to state that it will auto-renew and don't say they will notify you in advance.JohnsWL said:Had an auto renewal of an online Geneology site.

Certain regulated industries, eg Insurance, do have to give you notice but they are the exception not the rule.
Next steps? Cancel it now? Also go through your other subscriptions and make a diary of when they are due to renew so you don't get caught out again.0 -
You are down to good will on their part to refund.
Great advice above to make a note of all dates for any payments or renewals going out & which company they are with contact details.
Google (others are available) do a great calendar for just such situations.Life in the slow lane0 -
Check the terms and conditions you agreed to.JohnsWL said:Had an auto renewal of an online Geneology site.
