Paypal safety

I advertised an item on Facebook Marketplace, and hoped it would be collected in person.
I have been contacted by someone who wants me to post it by Royal Mail Next Day Special Delivery.
There are so many scams out there, I do not want to give him my bank details so that he can pay it that way.
I do have PayPal and have found out I can send it Friends and Family so that I do not incur fees. Is this safe?
Are there any way he could pay and then cancel after I have posted the item?

You don’t get any protection with using PayPal friends and family, for obvious reasons. And more to the point, nor do they, so they have no incentive to use it.
Why don’t you want to give them your bank details - there’s no more information than it would be when you used to send a cheque. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.3 -
Agree about bank details, all you need to give is the account name, account number and sortcode, nobody can access your account with only that information, I do it all the time.2

Pmd the team to move from the groceries board .
I wouldn’t give them bank details. I would say collection only. I was warned by a seller who did it and the buyer gets the item and then call their bank saying it’s a fraudulent transaction.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. Even if the person who sent the money pretends it was a scam the bank cannot automatically take the money back if paid by direct transfer. That's one of the reasons why from a buyer's perspective it isn't the best way of paying as you have no easy comeback if the goods are not received.1

You say you 'hoped' it would be collected in person - did you specify that in the advert?
If so, just refer the 'buyer' to the advert and let him decide what he wants to do....
The bottom line is that if you need the item to be collected (for cash, presumably), it's up to the buyers to sort out payment and collection.2 -
