What is an acceptable commute for mortgage lenders?

We are thinking about potentially relocating, but would like to avoid renting when/if we move.

Could we get a mortgage if our new home was approx 100 miles from our employment? We are a  couple who both work long shifts, my partner does 2 days a week and I do 3 if that makes a difference. 

Do mortgage lenders have a maximum allowable commute in terms of distance/time?

    I doubt they consider this at all particularly now that many people work from home.  So your office is in London and you live in Yeovil but you only visit your office twice a month which makes living far away perfectly reasonable.  And even if you do need to go in more often there are thousands of people that live all along the south coast that work in London.  It's a fairly easy (with trains co-operating occasionally) commute so of no consequence.

    What's the expected travel time ?  How realistic is it in terms of a regular commute. Underwriters will apply commonsense.

    It depends what you do for a living and how practical it appears to the underwriters. 

    An IT Consultant is likely not geographically limited but a Factory Manager on a shift pattern travelling 200 miles return?

    Their concern is:

    Is the applicant really intended to keep their current job?
    Will the applicant purchase as a residential then let the property out?

    It would be approximately 2 hours each way commute.

    We both work in healthcare (NHS) so no opportunity to work from home. 
    Our intention would be to keep current jobs initially and commute. I expect eventually I would look for a new job once relocated, but it would be the same pay grade and if I couldn't find something I wanted to do I would continue to commute. My partner works in a specialist field so would be more likely to continue to commute long term.

    Is there anyway of getting an idea of how likely it is to go through? Would be reluctant to market the house, find a property only to find we couldn't get a mortgage on it because of our jobs!
