Royal Mail Postcode Error

So I posted a parcel on Friday and when i got home, i realised the receipt i received showed a different postcode to the parcel i sent - It should have been CH5 ###, but the receipt shows CH3 ###. Checking the address label i put on the parcel shows I put CH5, so when the woman at the counter typed in the details for postage label she printed off, she mis-typed. What i'm not sure about is I assume the postage label may contain that info in the QR code so when it gets scanned by the system, it will be based on the wrong postcode. Fortunately the CH3 ### postcode does not exist, but i'm not sure whats likely to happen ...

  • I’d imagine the postcode is used primarily at the initial sorting stage and because the postcode used in this case doesn’t actually exist then the package would be rejected from the automated sorting process and sorted by hand by a human familiar with postcode matches to addresses or with a reference list. Possibly this might delay the process slightly.

When it comes to the delivery the postie would read “25 Acacia Avenue, Anytown” and take it to Acacia Avenue.

    would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

There's definitely no 'a' in 'definitely'.

If CH5 and CH3 are delivered by the same office I imagine it would be fairly quickly sorted correctly at that stage.  If the offices are different there might be more of a delay.
