Just thought I'd supply an update for anyone interested in the outcome. I decided to decline the offer and let the ombudsman decide. I knew I could potentially lose out on any money at all but I felt strongly that they were in the wrong on this one.
Well, the ombudsman agreed with me and upheld my complaint. They've instructed BG to award me £36.10 which was the difference in tariff I should have been given, a £75 goodwill gesture and a letter of apology. Very happy with that.
Again, major kudos to the ombudsman service, especially my case handler who was lovely and very efficient. I dare say I still would have been impressed even if they hadn't found in my favour!6
