Potential Critical Illness Claim?

My dad had a heart attack back in 2007 and I believe he had critical illness cover on his life insurance policy at the time, but he didn’t realise. He’s since paid off his mortgage.

Does he have a potential claim given it happens almost 16 years ago?

  • It all depends on the policy detail.
If the policy states that a claim has to be started within xx days of the incident he may well be out of time.

Without the actual policy nobody knows.

Most insurers will review a retrospective claim.  Last year, Aviva backdated one to 2011.

However, it can be more difficult where records no longer exist or if the condition was marginal or something where tests would be needed but obviously cant be after all this time.
