Car Insurance renewal

Options
due 8/3. Following Martins advice to compare pre-renewal, should I be doing this now (30 days), or in 23 days time? As I have not yet had the renewal, I don't know the price of it. Should I take a flyer and pay the 'best' price now, in advance, or wait.    TIA

Mine is due 7/3 and my insurer has decided not to renew probably because of my age 84

I tried Jaguar thinking they might insure my Jag, yep they will. £2088 thats about £1300 more than I paid last year

I did a search a few days go and the cheapest was Tesco at £987 I will try again at the 20 day point

Most of my searches last year were £1000 - £2000

You can ask for a date before the one you have expires,

If you know what you paid last year you can bet your life it will be more this year

Risky buying in advance without waiting for the renewal.   The renewal may be cheaper.

    I wouldn't take that bet.

No, you should do it next week. The car insurance guide on the main site currently has the optimal date as 23 days before the renewal date.

So by my calculation (please do check this yourself) you'll be spending a romantic afternoon with the comparison sites on 14/02  :D

Mine arrived today for renewal 9/3. Up 60%!!

Alternate quotes via MSE were +44% for the best then +48% and +50% for the next two. No info on whether driving abroad is included on those quotes or an additional cost. Is included for existing which is Saga.

Rang Saga. Requote reduced to +54%. Increased excess from £200 to £250, reduced to +50%.

Have stayed with Saga for relative ease. Official inflation at 4% is not apparent in my world unfortunately.

There's going to be a lot more uninsured drivers on the road that's for sure. And that will increase premiums even more for the rest of us :-(

    just came through Aegas +43%
  • +43% isn't bad. I got mine ('20 years' no claims, no other changes, early 50's age), up by 57%. Couldn't find a cheaper like for like anywhere unless I upped the excess significantly.
