registering for santander online banking

I keep trying to register for online banking with Santander, I have a new mortgage with them, no bank account. they keep sending me emails saying I can register for online banking with just my mortgage number and mobile. when I enter in the details (mortgage account number) it keep asking me for a banking sort code despite clearly stating mortgage account holders dont need a banking sortcode to register. I clearly need to call them but I'm wondering if there is something that I'm just not seeing... TIA
