Tesco SIM Only data useage

Hope I am in correct area to ask this.

End of last year we moved ISP whom we had our mobile SIM only deals.

My wife was on a SIM 1gb data deal with BT (EE), she never used anything to get near the 1gb usage.

She is now on a Tesco (O2) 2gb SIM only and the data is used well within the month and we had to add more money to the deal.

Nothing has changed on her phone. No extra apps added, no internet browsing.

We have looked at phone settings to double check whats there and its same as it was with BT (ee).

Looking at account on line it also says mobile internet used at around 7am a couple of times, yet the phone is not used that time of day and if it was it would be connected to our WIFI.

Any ideas whats going on ? Stuck in 12 month contract now so unable to switch

Can she check what is using the mobile data?  It can be done on an iPhone easily enough

Hi, as said nothing different than before the change.

tells us maps (used when in car as before the switch) Whatspp and Asda rewards are the only apps showing data on

Does it show how much data each app is using?

It did, but I have refreshed it approx 15 mins ago. Will recheck it later

If you can reset it at the end of the day then anything using data should be very obvious when you check again in the morning.  Background app refresh being a possibility

I reactivated apps one by one and it appears the cause could be the Maps.

Still dont get why the usage is eaten so quickly since the provider change. Im 99% certain maps was active on the BT(ee) system.

How are updates done?

Make sure the phone is set to only do them when connected via WiFi.

If you stop the Maps app having access to mobile data it might be interesting to see what happens.
