Credit rating hugely affected by 'missed' mobile payment that shouldn't have been taken

I have had a real issue leaving my previous pay monthly mobile contract (see Impossible to leave Plusnet Mobile — MoneySavingExpert Forum).

The long and short of it is they should have cancelled my contract a few months ago and I had a message to say that was happening and apologising for past payments being taken that shouldn't have been.

However they have now again tried to take payment - and as I have cancelled my direct debit - this has been listed as a missed payment causing my credit rating to fall a huge number of points from excellent to fair (I have never missed a payment before ever).

I am renewing my mortgage this year so this really has me worried.

How difficult is it to raise a dispute with the credit agencies and to get this missed payment struck off my credit file?

If I provide Plusnet's last email from a few months ago apologising for not closing my account, refunding my last payment and promising to close my account there and then, will that be enough evidence to have this struck off?

If it is struck off will my credit rating go back up to where it was?

No. It will likely drop further. But it doesn't matter as no one sees it and it's not a factor in lending. Lenders only look at the data.

It's simple to raise a dispute with the CRAs. Remember to do all CRAs where the entry appears.

Grim to hear it'll still affect my score even when it's been corrected.

I've corrected it with transunion, the other two agencies seems a bit more difficult to do.

Why's it grim? It's just a made up number that only you see.

You should worry more about your horoscope....

You need Plusnet to action the cancellation properly.

Issue a complaint to them. Then refer them to the ICO of Ofcom?
