Loose Door Handle

Hi the handle on my door is sagging/loose and I can't turn the circle cover on the handle to access the screws. I've tried using a jar opener gripper. Any ideas on how I can gain access I have a feeling the screws have come away from the wood. Thanks in advance

Have you tried from both sides? One side might be threaded and the screws go from one side into the other.

What sort of jar opener have you used?
I'd try a strap wrench (and masking tape if needed to improve the grip)Silverline Rubber Strap Wrenches Set 2 Pack - Screwfix

I may be wrong, but in the first picture it looks to me like there's a little grub screw on the actual handle (probably an Allen head).  You could try removing that, pull the handle off then seeing if that will let you see a bit more what's going on?  It might not be of any help, but it should be easy enough to give it a try.

We have similar shaped handles & a couple of days ago one became very loose. As CliveOfIndia says, there's a  grub screw underneath the handle. Ours had fallen out. Once replaced & tightened with Allen key, no more loose handle. Fiddly job though as grub screw is tiny.

If the whole handle assembly, including that round collar, is loose and moving, then it'll likely be as you suspect, and the screws securing the handle to the door will have stripped or loosened. To get to that the collar needs to be unscrewed, and that is normal anti-clock, but you need to get a grip, man.
But if the round collar is not moving, and only the handle does so, then fingers crossed it's as Clive pointed out - the grub screw is loose.

I believe they're called Lever on Rose door handles if that helps in your Googling!
  • Thanks all for your advice. I've just bought a strap wrench :) Job for the weekend.

Surely it makes sense to undo the grub screw before applying force with a strap wrench?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Does the collar actually unscrew, rather than just levered up and off?

We've got these in a house we rent out and the covers unscrew, but the ones in the house we live in currently lever off rather than unscrew. Might be worth very carefully getting a small flat head screwdriver a stanley blade and see if you can wiggle it off.
