Help Please Problem with DVD Recording

I hope some of you kind people on the Techies Forum can help. We have a Samsung VR336 Dvd & Video player/recorder.We are having problems with the DVD recordings. When we play back RW DVD's the picture sometimes jumps, freezes & is pixelated. We tried to use an older RW DVD that was ok but when we deleted one item the whole of the DVD became unreadable. When tried recording on DVDR it played back without any problems. Does this seem like a machine problem ( it's almost 12 months old - so still under guarantee) or is it more likely to be a problem with DVD's - but is happening with different makes, new ones & some we have recorded on before. Woul be really glad of any advice
Thanks
Philsu

  • Sound like faulty blank discs to me. Trust me, there are very few blank DVDRs that are worth a damn. The best unbranded make is Verbatum, are go for Sony or TDK branded blanks.

Typically, RW CDs and DVDs have a lower reflectivity than the write-once +R and -Rs. As a drive gets older it gradually gets less able to track a disk properly for a number of reasons (dirt, wear, hardening lubricants), and so the RW disks are typically the first to give problems.

If you buy in bulk, the write-once blanks are so incredibly cheap these days that you may find it easiest to to use these and throw them away (or better, recycle them) when you've finished with them.

And as others have said, because they use different dyes, some makes of blank suit some drives better than others.
