Broken key fob
I wanted to get peoples opinion on whether I should pursue this issue further;
I dropped my car in for an MOT with a nationally known garage on the Thursday and unfortunately it failed needing 2 x rear tyres. The mechanic said he could get 2 new tyres delivered for Friday and I agreed.
By Friday late afternoon, the shop had fitted the tyres and carried out a re-MOT and it passed and they asked me if I wanted to pick it up.
As it was late and I didnt have transport I asked if I could pick it up on Saturday and they agreed.
When I arrived, I was told that they couldn't get the car off of the ramp (presumably where it was left overnight after its re-MOT) as the electronic key fob wasn't working. We suspected a dead battery so I drove home, picked up my spare fob and another known good battery.
When we tried the original fob with the new battery and the spare fob with the same battery, it became clear that the fob may be electronically broken as there was a nasty burnt electronics smell from the fob.
The original fob had clearly been working as they had driven the car around to get it on and off ramps and lifts for the tyres and the MOT, but now Im left with only 1 fob and a broken one.
Should I follow this up and demand a replacement fob or should I put this down to "wear and tear"?

Electronics fail, not sure you can point the blame at the garage without some evidence.1

What is the burning smell from the key, I can't think of anyway an internal malfunction would cause that unless somehow the internals were fried by some outside power source, like being shorted across the 12V battery terminals or some other act like being put in a microwave as a prank or something0

Sounds like they've cooked the keys on something hot, probably by accident.

No way could any garage damage a customers key fob. Except Hellfrauds.

Components in battery powered fobs and remotes can easily go "pop"
Have a look at the Sky forums regards Stream remotes, only two AAA batteries and several cases of scary failures.0 -
