Issue with Gas meter
Hiello, My gas and electric bill are issued by So Energy and I am on a fixed tariff. I had issue with my boiler which has been repaired 2/3 weeks ago. It was making noises so British gas engineer fitted a part. Since then my gas meter running fast than usual.
My gas bill itself for Jan was £380 and normally my total Gas and Electric bill is £270 per month.
The gas meter readings 27 Jan was 4876 and today is 4904.
I live in Birmingham and on So Energy tariff and on So Juniper 1 year tariff.
Can anyone calculate the usage for the above 10 days usage. Thanks

That is about 890kWh of use, just multiply that by the kWh rate on your last bill, it will probably work out to be below £70.It is very normal for Jan/Feb to be higher than the rest of the year due to the cold weather...0

890 x 27p per kWh works out more like £240. Unless I’m missing something here.MWT said:That is about 890kWh of use, just multiply that by the kWh rate on your last bill, it will probably work out to be below £70.It is very normal for Jan/Feb to be higher than the rest of the year due to the cold weather...0 -
Can you explain how to work out the gas bill so I can try to do it myself? Thanks

Yes. Gas doesn't cost 27p/kWh.tim_p said:

There’s that! I’d focussed on the mention of elec in OP and engaged fingers before brain!Netexporter said:

As a very rough guide multiply meter units (hcf) x 32 (to kWh) x unit rate. Don't forget the 5% VAT which may or may not be included depending on where you take the unit price from, from the bill you need to add VAT, from the website it is usually included. There is also the daily charge, again with or without VAT.superM said:Can you explain how to work out the gas bill so I can try to do it myself? Thanks

I don't know what your tariff is to work it out accurately for you, but worth noting to anyone else commenting, that the meter is an imperial one recording in hundreds of cubic feet - not cubic meters. My rough calc, at 7.5p per kWh would be over 70 quid with standing charge and VAT.
Also, to the OP - check that the more recent higher bill hasn't been billed in cubic meters in error - the conversion factor is x2.83 i.e. 100 cubic ft = 2.83 cubic m.0
