Specified adult childcare credits

Can I fill in the form CA9176 needed to apply for specified adult childcare credits on an iPad or iPhone or does it have to be on a computer as when I tried it only goes as far as page 2

My wife did it on her android tablet so ipad should be fine,  try using desktop mode.
You still have to print it off and post it, no way of doing it online unfortunately.   They are very slow at updating, my Wife applied in October and the credits haven’t shown up yet for 21-22.
  • I used an iPad to do all mine. The current processing time is 3-5 months from date of receipt by them.
  • I’ve tried it on iPad and iPhone but it won’t let me go past page 2 and I know there must more as the progress bar is only showing half way. When I click on the add button to add more years it goes squiggly and an error comes up but not what the error is. When putting in the dates do you have to put the actual tax years ie 6/4/21 to 5/4/22 or the period of time during that year that I looked after my grandson ie 1/8/21 to 5/4/22

I do apologise, I had to do my last year 21/22 on a pc as I couldn’t get it to work on iPad. I did put the correct start and end of the tax year but it still wouldn’t move on. They have been promising an online form for some time now.
  • I’ll go to the library and try it on their computer then thanks
  • If there is anyone on this forum who has had SAC credits refused because their son or daughter had not claimed Child benefit due to High Income Child Benefit Tax Charge issues, then you may be interested in a recent announcement by the Treasury. I think Martin has been publicising that the Treasury have announced in April 2023 that they are planning to resolve the issue of parents missing out on NI credits towards future state pension due to failing to claim CB because their partner earns too much and they don't think they are eligible.  I am trying to get reassurance that those of us who were turned down for SACCs because our children didn't claim are also taken into account when changing the legislation about backdating of CB (current limit is 3 months). A further announcement last month said that NI credits should be reclaimable from 2026, but I am trying to raise awareness that some of us have already lost pension as a result of this. It is not just a problem for the future. My MP is helping, but the more that raise this with their MPs the better.
  • I posted earlier today about the fact that I was trying to find out whether grandparents would be able to claim SACCs they were unable to claim previously because their children had not claimed child benefit. I actually received my response from HMRC in the post an hour later. I still have to follow this up with my MP as they are not promising anything at this stage:

'The DWP will be bringing forward secondary legislation to enact the change as soon as possible.  Further information on whether these NI credits received retrospectively can be transferred to others as SAAC will be made available in due course'

I had a similar problem on a laptop , I had to start again and didn't use the auto fill function when adding my details .
Interested in your question about what exactly to put for the dates of claims , ie for one day a week , is it the day , the week or the tax year , if it was by the day then that's a lot of entries !!  Did you find an answer . Thanks .

These credits work by transferring the weekly National Insurance credit a parent or carer gets as the Child Benefit recipient to an eligible family member. They can help to stop gaps in your National Insurance record. You will receive a Class 3 National Insurance credit for each week or part week you provided care for the child.
So you should claim against each week - or run of weeks - where you cared for the child for some time in that week. MrsM claimed from the first Monday of a period to the last Friday of that period as we looked after the child M-F in term time. The majority seem to claim for the whole year but no one seems to check or care.
