Private parking ticket escalated to debt collectors

Hi everyone!

I got ticketed in September when my car was parked in my allotted bay with my ticket on show. There was no physical ticket but I got a letter through the post saying my permit was copied, tampered with or unreadable. It was faded and I ordered a new permit straight away. I contacted our management company and emailed pictures of my faded permit, a neighbours permit that was unreadable due to frost on the windscreen and the defaced parking control signs displayed in the area. Our management company said they would speak to PCM to try and get it revoked.

We were previously advised when we have had tickets not to pay them because they have no legal right to enforce terms on our parking when the lease documents (we own the flat) says the parking space is part of our property.

I hadn’t heard anything more about the ticket until I received a debt collection letter from a third party. I’m now concerned it’ll impact my credit rating or they will have the power to take my car if I don’t pay.
