A quick look at Danske Bank's own website found this:
    "

Our bank notes can be accepted across the UK as they are valid sterling notes.

However, this is subject to the retailer or other recipient being willing to accept them as payment. Danske Bank notes may be refused more frequently in England, Scotland and Wales where the notes are not as familiar to the retailers."

I'd expect banks and Post Offices to accept them, although you might have to be a bit forceful if trying to use a small sub Post Office.

Many moons ago I worked at Victoria Wine and Thresher wine shop and when Celtic was playing, the shop would be queued out with fans going to the football over from Ireland.  We would accept them no problem, (it was Northern Bank notes then), they just get put in a seperate pouch and sent on to Girobank with the mutilated notes.  I really can't imagine you having a problem at a bank or a Post Office outlet.

I don't know about Post Offices but High Street banks will (should).
  • A lot of supermarket self service checkouts are programmed to accept all forms of sterling bank notes. I've used NI notes in Tesco self service checkouts in GB many times. Trying to use them with human being cashiers will usually result in looks of confusion/suspicion. Banks shouldn't be a problem.

Scotland has loads of NI traffic and uses non-Bank of England banknotes unlike England and Wales, so not the greatest comparison.

If you've already got lots of NI banknotes, I would pop them into a local bank branch or Post Office (UK) to either deposit or swap them. I personally just use contactless (phone/card) and wait until arriving in rUK and get local Sterling notes out of any LINK ATM if I want local cash to spend. That's also what I do when I go to Gibraltar, the Channel Islands or Isle of Man.
