I've already tried to threaten taking my loss making custom elsewhere, and they couldn't even be bothered to shrug their shoulders.

Your complaint is with your conveyancer not the bank, that is who you should be complaining to and asking for redress. Not a bank who has no connection or custom with you.0

My understanding is that, strictly speaking, my complaint is with my buyer who failed to get completion monies to the destination on the agreed date and that the fact that it was not a problem caused directly by them does not alter that she is in breach of contract. But she has suffered enough already.0

The bank did not handle the response to their query in a timely or sensible manner. There were procedural errors, but that does not change the fact that they have nothing to directly answer to me for.0

Perhaps your buyers should be complaining to their bank or Conveyancers1
