Does self levelling compound smell / gas off a lot? Safe to use with pregnant lady in the house?

Looking at someone self-leveling the concrete floor downstairs, putting some new skirtings on, and laying some wooden floor.

Will the underlay or leveling compound have a lot of VOC's which could be harmful to a pregnant lady + baby?

Seems to be a lot of conflicting info online with VOCs

Something like the Mapei Ultraplan SLC will have a very low VOC, as will most other cement based compounds. Just avoid the resin based stuff and you'll be fine. If you do have any concerns, ventilate the area well for about 24 hours.

Only ever used self levelling in a garage and the smell was pretty pungent the first day.
Give yourselves a treat and have a night away when it is done.
  • We had resin based compound on our shower room/extension floor and that smelt for less than 24 hours.
