Type 1 Diabetic Life Insurance U.K. Help needed
Hi,
Thanks for reading my post.
My wife is looking to get life insurance. She’s been a type 1 diabetic since her teens.
She has diabetic retinopathy & early stage neuropathy in her feet. Not the greatest of circumstances to find ourselves in.
We’ve tried Legal & General, Aviva, Royal London Diabetic cover & Beagles Street, but have been rejected by all of them. We’ve consulted a financial advisor. It was him who recommended Royal London. But he’s unable to think of any other companies.
He suggested try seeking advice in Facebook groups, mumsnet & Money Saving Expert forums.
We can’t be the only people who’ve tried to get life insurance cover for a diabetic with those conditions.
It would be reducing term insurance we’d be looking for. We’ve no kids so it would just be to cover the remainder of the mortgage.
Does anyone have any advice or recommendations of companies that would be suitable?
Many thanks in advance

Could try Aviva.
While Mrs does not have type 1, she does have a long list of conditions. Took a while to sort & is not very cheap. But we did get cover for mortgage.
Check Quidco as they often appear on there & the cashback helps.Life in the slow lane0 -

Whilst there are a small number of specialist insurers to cover high-risk cases, the premiums would be significant and would likely result in a decision not to proceed with the coverage.
If the employer has a good benefits package, such as group policies, then these can be ideal as they are not usually underwritten individually. Public sector workers also tend to find good death in service coverage.

If you ring https://www.biba.org.uk/ (office hours) they will be able to tell you which of their members would provide cover. I did this when trying to get travel insurance whilst undergoing diagnostic tests, it saved me a lot of fruitless searching.0

The problem with protection insurance like Life is that there is a much more limited panel of insurers compared to general insurance and they all buy reinsurance from the same reinsurers who effectively pull the strings on what they will and won't cover0
