Temporary mobile phone sim for Australia visit

I'm planning a 2-3 week visit to Australia this year. My current uk mobile phone package will charge a considerable amount for calls, texts and data if I use it over there. I'm considering getting a temporary sim to use in an old phone for the visit. Has anyone looked into getting a temporary sim while in Australia and if so what was the cheapest solution? At least I'll need 3GB of data for google maps etc but some free mins and texts will be useful.

Or pop into a Coles or Woolworth supermarket, any number of cheap SIMS to choose from.1
