V5C transfer question

I've just traded in my car that I've owned for over 8 years to a dealer, and it's the first trade in I've done since 2012. As advised on the V5C I retained the yellow "transfer to a dealer" slip (V5C/3) and got the salesman to sign it. In the past I would then post that to DVLA, but I've already had an email from DVLA confirming that the car has been transferred to the motor trade and that I'm no longer the keeper. I presume that the dealer did this electronically. So do I still need to send in the yellow slip, or is that now redundant?

If the DVLA have told you that you're no longer the keeper, that's all you need.1

I presume that new technology at the DVLA has removed the need for the yellow slip if the dealer is online to them now.Insurance was done today, I was given a few days cover on the new car by the dealer which allowed me to tax it last night and drive it this morning, but I wanted to get it onto my own policy as soon as I could.0

The dealer gave me the tare off part at the bottom of the v5 but a few days later the new v5 for my new car arrived in the post followed by a notice from the DVLA saying i was now not the owner of my trade in followed by a credit for the remaining VED ( tax ) off my trade in ,it was payed into my bank rather than a cheque so everything done on line ,enjoy your new car.0

https://www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicleAs I already said, it's been 12 years since I last did a trade in, and to be honset I don't remember from then whether I sent off the slip or if the dealer did it online, but the slip was definitely still there on a V5C issued in 2015 so they must have expected some people to still be using it.PS The car I've traded in had £0 VED so there won't be any refund to come.0 -

Just to finish this thread, much to my surprise the new V5C arrived this morning, less than 5 days after DVLA were notificed of the change of RK. There are some significant differences to the format of the V5C that was issued for my old car in 2015, in particular that what was Yellow Section 9 (marked V5C/3) is now Section 4 (unmarked) and advises that the easiest way to notify transfer to a motor trader is online, something that wasn't mentioned previously.
