The Dorking Caves are one of Surrey’s best kept secrets.

Carved out of the Lower Greensand, these hidden galleries have been in use for hundreds of years. A knowledgeable guide will take you back in time to when the caves were used as wine cellars, showing you dark old passageways atmospherically lit by candles. You will pass by the old wine bins and several ancient well shafts and
see dozens of dates and names carved into the walls dating back as far as 1666.

When you have inspected the upper chamber, your guide will take you down a long staircase descending 50 feet below street level to Dorking’s very own ‘mystery chamber’.
