Price looks to be at the top end but difficult to say if it is over the top. Ours has been down 23 years now with no issues and was done using a similar spec. As people have said, the base is absolutely key as is good drainage with soak aways as well as the sloping of the surface.

Maybe something like https://www.myjobquote.co.uk/costs/block-paving-cost will give you a better idea if you fill it in.
  • An update for anyone interested
We've found another company to do the work, well known in the area and have good reviews.
The spec is the same as the original but also includes contrasting coloured blocks around the perimeter, better edging around the step and a existing rainwater drainpipe to be connected to the new soakaway.
Cost £7,308 inc vat. Almost £4k cheaper than the original quote of £11,250
I know getting other quotes is an obvious thing to do but the person who recommended the original company lead me to believe they were competitive as well as giving good workmanship.
    Lessons learned  :)

When you have a downpipe connected to a soakaway, I would recommend you use one of these - https://www.floplast.co.uk/product/leafdebris-interceptor-gully
Makes cleaning out any blockages so much easier, and they also help to stop crud filling up the soakaway.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
