Wowcher

I have Purchased a chair off Wowcher on Facebook last august. It cost me £159 and i thought it would be a nice Christmas present for myself as I am a pensioner and live on my own. I had seen one on Wowcher which popped up on my web page and thought how nice it looked and my old chair was looking very shabby. So I started going through the process of buying it.The trouble was it was very hard to understand. After trying a few times I thought I hadn't bought it and gave up trying, thinking how easier it would have been if I had gone shopping. The next week I was checking my Bank statements and noticed a payment made to Wowcher for a reclining chair and thought to myself it must have gone through. I went on the web looked into my Wowcher account and yes it had gone through. I read what to do next and it told me to claim it so I did then it said to redeem it and I did and waited for it to arrive. This was in the August and I waited and waited but it never came.  I got in touch with them and they said there was problems with the post.Christmas was just a week away now and it still hadn't arrived. I got back in touch with them and they said I had recieved it, but I hadn't. I put a dispute in with Pay Pal as the payment had been made through them and they told me to put in a dispute. I did but after a week or so they told me I had lost the case. I am a 74 year old widow and have only a little knowledge of the internet so all this typing and going from one place to another was really tiring me out.I tried The bank and they transferred me to their fraud  site but no luck I then tried Facebook but they did not want to know all of them seemed to be fobbing me off onto another company. I even pleaded with Wowcher and three times they told me it was on its way but it never arrived. The Citizen's Advice just gave me that,, advice! I went back on Facebook and this site Rip off Wowcher was on it I went in and low and behold there were hundreds just like me. I had just watched Mr Bates and the Post Office on the TV and couldnt help thinking how similar this was.I got back on Facebook and told them about my story someone said get in touch with this program so I have. I also got in touch with Wowcher and told them to which I recieved a Wowcher telling me to redeem my chair I have and they sent me a receipt for the chair saying it was being sent. So now I am just waiting to see if it arrives. This is not fair trading its far to hard for some to follow and so many loop holes. If you go on Facebook believe its Rip off Wowcher as I do now and stop it being advertised on TV

  • Sometimes you have two E-Mail addresses Hot mail and a back up which might be Google which in my case was and will use your G.Mail account not you Hotmail account. So when you have to claim go to G.Mail not Hotmail They dont tell you this though

To be fair you've maybe misunderstood what Wowcher is - you bought a voucher from them, not a chair so they have fulfilled their part of the deal. You them use that voucher to exchange for a chair from Wowchers agreed supplier.

Maybe worth searching on here for Wowcher and seeing some of the horror stories and what you can do (very limited) if things don't go to plan

Who is the  company that is using Wowcher to sell their chairs and what reason did PayPal give for refusing your claim?
Surely they use whichever email address you give them?

TBH. I'm lost all the way..

    Especially the 2nd post..

All I can think is that Op has not realised they have a Wowcher & never redeemed it.

I'm afraid you lost me at this point.  Equating your delayed receipt of a £159 chair to gross miscarriages of justice that cost people their livelihoods, their life savings, their reputation, their liberty and in four tragic cases, their lives, is ludicrous and quite frankly, offensive.

Completely agree. Have had 3 customers since that program aired compare their shopping experience to those involved in the post office scandal and told them in no uncertain terms how offensive and distasteful I found it. Didn’t receive a response from any of them.

Have you any friends or family who can help you? It's quite hard to assist over the internet and while you may have been told to get in touch with Martin Lewis, the Money Saving Expert, this is a forum for consumers and Martin will be very unlikely to see your post.

Though it's nothing like the Post Office/Horizon situation, I can understand you must feel upset. As others have said, when you buy from Wowcher, you usually purchase a voucher which you then redeem on a different website to make your discounted purchase. So the first question is - have you received a voucher from Wowcher, to any of your email addresses or in the post? The next steps are dependent on this question.

    1. You paid for a voucher which you have received. That's why you cannot dispute it with PayPal because you got what you paid for. This is in their T&Cs.

    2. My parents are in their 70s and have excellent knowledge of the Internet. This isn't an excuse.

    3. Likening this to Mr Bates is unbelievable! Absolutely nothing like it!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • The horizon / post office scandal, left people losing their business, their home, and vast sums of money.  At least one couple’s children suffered bullying, many people suffered major health issues, some even committed suicide.  Many were convicted with some going to prison, many still haven’t had their convictions overturned.

This has absolutely no similarities to your issue with a £159 chair.  It sounds like you most likely need to use the voucher you were sent to purchase the chair.

So you had been sent the voucher but it was sent to one of your two email addresses but you were checking the other one.

I also got in touch with Wowcher and told them to which I recieved a Wowcher telling me to redeem my chair I have and they sent me a receipt for the chair saying it was being sent. So now I am just waiting to see if it arrives.
It looks like you have now redeemed yout voucher against the chair after advice from Wowcher.
